you should get this for your office
Wow. Here's what you can do with eight monitors, eight machines, google earth and the internet. (If you had a couple of world-class Google engineers at your disposal.)

google now mapping mountains

You probably already know that Google tricks out cars to capture images for their street view pics across the world. But now there's street view for Canada’s Whistler Blackcomb ski resort. (Just in time for the Olympics.)
How'd they do that? They tricked out a snowmobile.
Find even more pics and behind the scenes fun at the Google Street View blog.

if you see this on the street today, please pick it up

The Blu Dot store is placing sweet designer chairs on the streets of NYC today for people to discover, and take home. What's even better is that many of these chairs are equipped with GPS devices that will trace their journey and be chronicled in a documentary to be released later in the year. Excellent idea.
Be vigilant. If you see something, grab something, and give it a home. From Laura Newman

what the google maps drivers really look like
Ever wonder what the dudes who drive the Google Maps cars look like? Now you'll know, thanks to Google Street View Guys.
Pretty cool production that uses actual Google Maps street view shots as background footage.

spend your day creating buildings and wondering about the google future
There's a couple of amazing Googleicious developments that you're going to want to wrap your head around.
First, Google Building Maker. Google is crowd sourcing the 3D building creation for Google Earth. And they've made a tool that makes it easy and fun. What an incredible project for classrooms, architectural learning, or anyone bored with their everyday stuff.
Next, check out what the Georgia Institute of Technology created: a fusion of Google Maps and live security cams. Imagine a world that you can explore in real time. As Thought Gadgets points out, this is the future, and the possibilities are mind-blowing.
In Google we trust.

what the people are buying

JustBought.it is a location-based social shopping app that lets you share photos and tweets on the things that you buy. (Because the tweets about what you had for lunch weren't exciting enough.)
Actually, Zappos implemented something like this a while back and it works great with their product, and it's a fantastic illustration of how the You Bought It service could be integrated with a brand. Possibilities = endless.

we've traced that tweet. it's coming from INSIDE the house.

Twitter has announced that they plan on launching a new feature that allows you to broadcast exactly where your tweet was coming from. That's probably the most significant feature release for the tool since...ever.
Soon you'll be able to see who's tweeting in your hood, where your friends are, and where to get the best bbq.
Third party applications have made this generally available for those tweeting from their phones, but this will apparently be incorporated into the actual Twitter API.
This opens a world of promotional and development opportunities. Treasure hunts, location based promotions, and whatever you might be able to dream up that includes GPS and Twitter.
Some will likely be creeped out by this, some will love it, and the world will tweet on.

an actual useful augmented reality app
Here's an augmented reality app for your iPhone that helps you locate the nearest subway station. Cool. Useful. Not a total waste of a download.
It's great that augmented reality is growing out of the novelty stage and into the useful stage. From Waxy.

google knows you're at the beach

Google just launched Latitude, their new tool that tracks your and your friends locations. Keep track of your husband, your kids or your neighbors. Or follow them around while never leaving your desk.
It works from most mobile devices or your desktop, and has loads of possibilities for marketing promotions, location based promotions or treasure hunts.

what your neighbors are doing on youtube

Thanks to YouTube's new geolocation feature, you can now search videos by the location from where they were uploaded. Curious about what the next door neighbor is doing on video?
There's a rough demo of the technology (you'll need to install Google Gears), and it works pretty well.
This creates some really fun promotional opportunities. Contests, treasure hunts, the possibilities are endless. (And snooping on your neighbors is always cool, too.) Thanks Giuli!!

location based social networking just got better

BrightKite, the location based social network just launched two handy new features: a wall that allows you to monitor anything happening around a specific place or event (this opens up some really cool promotional opportunities), and an iPhone application!
Check it out. Unless your life is like mine, and your BrightKite stream would read:
Home, breakfast
Office
Office, lunch
Office
Office
Office
Home, dinner
Home
But your brand is more exciting than that. What events could you be sharing, or pulling people together for, or connecting in new ways? Where are you??
