chevy aveo: buy it for pennies ![]() To promote their new Aveo, Chevy produced a billboard with the car realized in pennies. Supposedly the exact amount of pennies that it would take to purchase the car. This is a really cool idea that illustrates the low-cost factor of the car. Although I'm not buying the point that the pennies only lasted 30 minutes. Especially with the staged photograph of people taking pennies. "Careful - don't obscure the Chevrolet logo, little girl." sweet graphics for your mommy van ![]() Your passenger van is going to look soooo hot. Infectious has produced vehicle graphics that you can use to customize your car. Get bored of them? Want something new? They're completely removable. They've already partnered with some of the world's most awesome pop artists - and are accepting submissions for future designs from you. The Coop graphics will look bitchin' on your mom's car. Go for it. From Veer. Labels: art, automotive, pop culture, streetart

now on CD: the sounds of car manufacturing Agency Bullet just produced a series of videos for Audi to promote the R8. They assembled a bunch of musicians into an Audi orchestra. And they produced a piece to video that includes clips and sound effects from the factory floor. I would like to see an interactive version, where users can control the orchestra and re-order the video clips to create their own versions. But I'm a control freak, and probably need to see someone about that. Labels: automotive

history of bmw told with balls Check out the sweet BMW exhibit in Munich. Berlin agency Art+COM created an installation made of 714 balls suspended from strings. They're all controlled by a team of children in the ceiling. Or maybe a computer - that's not really clear. Inspiring work and a very unique way to illustrate a story. stick this in your muffler Two fun videos for Fiat. Here and here. I would assume that if you try to put a baseball in your muffler pipe at home that your car will explode, the baseball will not be pitched at the right angle to swing at it with, and your car will not fly. But you never really know until you try, so don't let me stop you. Labels: automotive, video

ny auto show without the crowds ![]() Make the Logo Bigger Bill has put together a fun Flickr slide show of the best of the NY Auto Show. Bill's gone to every NY Auto Show since the beginning of time, and has commentary like only a person who works on the auto brands can sarcastically deliver. I like the matte black Lexus. But want it in a MINI. Labels: automotive, photography, tradeshow

let's go to the place with giant monkeys ![]() Giant monkey/gorilla monsters rock. And the ones they found to star in this spot for Ford Ranger are awesome. I'm not sure what language it's in, but wherever this spot is from, they have giant monkeys that taunt humans. Probably some giant monkey island, off the Gorilla coast. I'd like to move there. concept cars suck ![]() I hate concept cars. Just a big tease of something we'll never see. And now, Chevy takes it to a whole new level. No longer just a tease at the car show, or car magazine, they're actually advertising a car that you can't buy. Ben over at Thought Gadgets points out how the campaign is a loser, for all of it's assumed intended audiences. I agree. Labels: ads, automotive, productdesign

when razr phones attack ![]() Silly outdoor for Razr, that's making the rounds this morning. Not sure what it says, other than watch out for giant flying cell phones. cute cars the next big thing ![]() Wired Magazine has a little piece on the latest Japanese school girl trend. Cute cars. The Pino, by Nissan, is a sweet little car that comes in a variety of really cool colors, and is completely customizable. From seat patterns, to tissue dispensers, stickers and matching fashions. And, they're cheap. They sell for about $8K - and Nissan has already sold more twice what they projected for the brand. Can't wait for these to hit the USA. So wish this could happen to every car shouting salesman, furniture shouting salesman, and every other obnoxious tv pitch pro. See the full version of the spot on the agency's site. Cool work. japanese nerd cars ![]() What started as a comic nerd trend is beginning to cross over to more mainstream audiences in Japan. Or at least to the cooler geeks. Otaku (aka "geeks") are rollin' with stickered cars and custom comic inspired interiors. The cars are called "itasha", supposedly chosen because the word sounds similar to "italian." Got a mini-van? Customize it with Sailor Moon stickers. That would rock. Don't even ask your wife. Just do it. Labels: anime, automotive, illustration, pop culture, trends, youthmarketing

the end of old school radio ![]() BoingBoing reports on a device that was getting a ton of buzz at South by Southwest, called Slacker. It's an internet radio station (both free and premium offerings) AND they're coming out with a hardware device - that feeds off of wifi OR satellite feeds. The difference is that this device uses existing satellites, so they don't have to blast their own hardware into space, like Sirius or XM do. We'd assume this means satellite radio really cheap. Internet in our car is just moments away. Can't wait. Labels: automotive, technology, trends

It all starts with a trailer for Hammer and Coop. You can see the trailer online - but also in theaters - which is a pretty cool move, for a fake trailer. fry workers need to laugh more ![]() Typical to their being about 3 days behind the blogosphere, I saw some coverage on broadcast news last night about the K-Fed Superbowl spot. Fry workers are all up in arms about it. C'mon. Have we completely lost our sense of humor? Are we allowed to laugh at anything anymore? Adrants put it best. music with your gas ![]() Total gasariffic promotional idea: A free song with every fill up. Dresser Wayne calls their reinvented gas pump the Ovation iX. It's a gas pump with wifi, with speakers, with video screens, and some other stuff. Of course, the obvious would be real-time news, promotions, and content. But with the internet at your pump, anything's possible. Like a free song with every fill-up. I'd never get gas anywhere else. Apple should get into the petroleum business, and create iPumps. And Apple gas. Labels: automotive, outdoor, technology

MINI billboards customized to car owners ![]() I bought a MINI a few months ago, so I've been able to experience their self-promotion first hand. It's really amazingly impressive branding machine, that doesn't end when you drive off the lot. Nearly every month after my purchase, I've received something special in the mail from MINI. Everything from a "MINI parking" stencil kit, to a box of car entertainment goodies. This is quite effective in turning brand enthusiasts into brand evangelists. MINI owners feel like they're in a special club. I've never experienced this with any other auto brand. So it's no surprise to see their latest outdoor campaign. They're sending RFID key fobs to MINI owners in select cities. You can then go online and program your own message. Then, when you drive your MINI under the billboard, it displays your personal message, for everyone to see. I wonder if they'll allow expletives. Labels: automotive, branding, outdoor, technology
