zombie shooting fun for the family

Check out this trailer for the new Resident Evil video game: you get to shoot zombies within the trailer. What better way to get users into your product than to actually give them the product experience?

how to make war history interesting

The Imperial War Museum has just launched What Lies Beneath, which shares the British experience during the Cold War. The site lets users explore British war history while the world was going through that evil commie phase.
There's also an accompanying video, all of which you'll find more engaging than the 43 pound history book your teacher forced you to read. If only high school could be this easy.

uniqlo takes over the world

Uniqlo has created another one of their Flashterpieces as a part of their "Tokyo to the world" campaign," and to coincide with the launch of their new store in Paris.
Uniqlo Calendar lets you create a widget, screensaver or web page calendar that tracks the weather, date and other important calendar stuff to an animated sequence of tilt shift photography.
Yes, the tilt shift revolution is overused, but if you put that aside, this is yet another sweet piece of of Japanese fashion super love. Shop on.

not for people who like bunnies

If your idea of an Easter celebration entails killing, maiming or cutting up the Easter Bunny, then you might enjoy the Easter Bunny Egg Run (Two). You play the role of the Easter Bunny, and try to avoid certain gruesome death.
Flash games are pretty tired, but the guys at Motion Monkey have created something that stands out...thanks to the blood and gore. Happy Easter.

how to behave on the subway

Metro Rules of Conduct is a game that teaches players how to behave on a subway. Artist/Developer Kian created the game to point out the irony of the situation. Train cars that are designed to foster reaction (with seats faced toward each other), yet society works hard to continue to ignore one another.
Play the game by staring at MP3 players and other objects without actually making prolonged eye contact with other humans. Scarily accurate, regardless of what city you're from.

navigaya. once you start, you won't stop.

This is so incredible. The more you play with it, the more you'll be impressed. Spend 15 minutes exploring this search, video viewing, internet surfing tool/experience thingamajig that I can only explain as addicting. They call it Navigaya.
Maybe it's the hypnotic music mix. Maybe it's the beautimungus video background. Maybe it's the portal to everythingness. Navigaya is here to solve all of the world's problems. Perhaps Obama made it. Or perhaps Navigaya created Obama. Whatever - rest easy, because Navigaya is here. From Hip Young Thing.

google: now we can see everything. except facebook.

The Google gods have just announced that they've engineered some magical potion that allows their search engines to see text in Flash. This is a big deal for Flash developers, because up until now, if your site was built in Flash, it was pretty much invisible to the search spiders.
An awesome development that is a great step in the right direction. Now really important content like the text from the Mentos Kiss Fight will finally be viewable for the world to see.
(And don't worry. Your drunken rants in Facebook are still completely invisible from the Google gods.)

how to share your reel.

While researching interesting brands and people that we'd like to meet on the Plaid Summer Tour, coworker Sara found Laika. A super cool animation and production facility in Oregon.
Their work is stunning - but that's not the only thing you should check out. Their site allows you to view their reels - and put together your own reel of their work, in any order you'd like. And then share it with friends.
They've thought hard about their audience - agencies and people who hire animators - and understand that there are several people that are a part of that decision making process. By allowing the sharing of a custom reel, everyone in on the decision can see the same work. Awesome work. Awesome marketing. Totally, completely awesome.
AND - I discovered that they produced the new spots for Soy Joy - which rock, btw. See the spot in my custom Laika reel.

75 years of preppy love

75 years ago, someone decided to put an alligator on a shirt, and then turn his collar up, and sneer at the person next to him in a t-shirt. And a brand was born.
Not sure if that's the actual Lacoste history - but you can discover for yourself at the the new Lacoste campaign site.
Lacoste is celebrating 75 years of preppy love, and produced some beautious flashy goo for you to enjoy. They've artfully placed some historic footage, and yet positioned themselves for the future.
You can even submit your own "in the future..." quote to be published on the site. I'm guessing that they won't be approving my "In the future, tennis will be stupid" submission. We'll see. From Styleboost.

uniqlo t-shirt promo rocks. again.

Uniqlo, the greatest store in all of the land, has produced yet another awesome interactive piece to promote their new line of t-shirts. Users can sample "beats" made from clips of Uniqlo models, and put them together in a way that it creates an original loop.
The result is a never-ending loop, created by users. While listening/watching, you can vote on favorite loops - which then pushes more popular loops further forward in the "song".
This is amazing work on so many levels. Time to go t-shirt shopping.

Both scary and exciting at the same time. Facebook is allowing Flash on their company pages. This is a big deal. Could be a massive boon for brands, and a major annoyance for Facebook users. Can't wait to see how this develops. In the meantime, we're beginning to experiment. More, soon.

unscrew america

It's a pretty rare event that conceptual, strategy, copywriting, design, illustration, sound design and flash development all converge to produce something great. Unscrew America is just that type of project.
The goal is to inform people about energy-efficient CFLs and LEDs - and also make sure people know that CFLs contain mercury and have to be properly recycled.
The incredible online component to the campaign feature beautious Flash animation, video, audio, writing, and everything else. Boom Design Group and their sister company Fluid did the Flash and sound design and video.
There's also print ads and even a tv component, which includes a role for Paul Reubens. Can't wait to see that. Nice campaign, by GSD&M. Nice job!!

eckerd college says happy holidays

The e-holiday cards are starting to roll in.
Eckerd College talked their President into a funny little holiday production. Sure to be appreciated by anyone who's a part of the creative/internet industrial work force.
Some great lines like "I just have to think of something funny, put the funny in the computer, and spit out a card. How long can that take?"
And "No....I need it now!"(Who hasn't had a client think it's that easy?)
I like that the management has a sense of humor. That's so rare in an educational environment, and says a lot about the leadership. Kudos, Mr Eckerd President. (And nice sweater.)

throw a lamb out of a plane

The dudes over at Koko Digital have created a cute game for the Make a Wish Foundation, called Lamb Chop Drop. I thought it might be a game where a lamb gets dropped into a meat grinder - but it turns out that it's actually a really cute game with a lamb that parachutes.
The "Donate your final score" feature at the end of the game is a nice touch.

Loads of engaging content. Detailed howto's that help users create stronger content. And - yes, it's social. I'm as tired as everyone else of new social networks - but this one rocks. mmmm. penthouse.
With all of the naked-ness on the internet, I didn't realize that Penthouse was still a relevant brand. Maybe that's the point with this viral-style production called My Pleasure Pet. You get to entertain a Penthouse pet, until she gets hot. Then special videos are unlocked. You get the picture.
(Mostly safe for work, until you unlock the special goodies. But then again, you probably don't want your boss seeing you cruising this site, regardless. Better to leave this kind of internet surfing to the pros.)
I didn't really spend any time here at all. No, really. Hardly a moment. Not with all of this work on my desk...Thanks Rob!

flying doggie navigation is the next big thing
The guy that owns the cleaning company responsible for keeping our offices from looking like the Sanford and Sons office was just telling us how his son was in a band. And that he does some website design too.
It turns out he's in a REALLY cool band - and their website ROCKS. Check it out when you have a minute. Really, really fun navigation that features a fun magic flying dog.
To make matters worse, while we're hard at work in lonely, grey New England, his son is on his way to tour Japan. Proof that I should have been a rock star.

tired of meetings? kill yourself.
This is the best game I've seen in a while, now. But then again, I enjoy putting my face into a paper shredder. To celebrate the fact that Adult Swim programs can now be watched on your computer, (side note: TV is evolving) they've released Five Minutes to Kill Yourself.
Everything about this production is stellar: concept, music, and the fact that your avatar has about five outfits to choose from that are exactly the same. Excellent work.
Naturally, someone somewhere will be horribly offended by this, and attempt to stop us all from killing ourselves. Spew blood while you can.

nike second coming isn't really.
Geez, it's been a while since we've seen some really great, interactive work from Nike. In the old days, they were often first with cool Flash work.
They've just launched a new campaign, titled Second Coming, which for me, didn't do much. An online video mashup that, as a tool - has been done, and is no longer impressive. Would have been awesome if they brought something new to it, and made it unique.
If you're going to be brazen and title your campaign 'Second Coming," it had better deliver. So far, I'm not a believer.

good stuff to keep you unproductive
Two really impressive Flash productions have come to my attention in the last couple of days.
The first, Roxic, allows users to create their own animated character, who immediately comes to life, replicates into a cast of thousands and dances. Your character dances live, until he's replaced by the next user's character. It's social. Pretty cool.
Next is Hedgehog, which I guess works a little like Sonic the Hedgehog (hence the name), but I'm really not sure, not having been a hedgehog fan. I've got a pretty short attention span for video games, especially Flash games. Everything has been done before. But Hedgehog is pretty cool. The game play isn't anything you haven't seen before - but the fluid, smooth Flash work is awesome.
Careful, it's Monday. Your boss will expect some work to be done today.
