creative commons, eff donations

Can't stand the commercialization of Christmas? Don't want to buy into consumerism? (cmon, it's fun). Really like to give a charitable donation instead of (or in addition to) gifts?

There are about six cabillion worthy non-profits, all who desperately need your hard earned cash. And you should definitely give to a few. (Feel free to list your favorites in comments.) But if you want to impress a creative person, give to a charity that means something in their industry.

Two that come to mind for internet workers:

Creative Commons and the EFF. You can even get some bitchin' t-shirts, (here and here) and celebrate with an actual gift WHILE help a great cause.

write a book

Here's a great gift for the bloggers and photographers. At Blurb, you can turn your blog, or your photographs, into a book. An actual hardcover, library bound book. Document a trip, a pet, or your blog for the people in your life who care. Apple's been doing this for a while with iPhoto, and Blurb seems to have taken this to another level. Starting at $18.95.

people love paper

Creative people love paper. Even the internet types. At Ex Libris Anonymous, you can buy hand made journals with covers from vintage books. The journals are individual productions - so the inventory is constantly changing. Really unique and nostalgic gift, from $12 - $15 each.
