design with a purpose

Yesterday afternoon California start-up, Mass Canvas, launched with a pretty simple, but smart business model to give talented designers visibility, while providing value to consumers, while doing good for the world all at once. Here's how it works:

+ Invite designers from around the world to design t-shirts based on a new design challenge every month.
+ Allow the world to vote on the best five.
+ Give those best five $1,000 and put their t-shirts up for sale in limited quantity for the world to buy.
+ Donate 10% of sales to a different charity for a month.

You might be thinking (as was I) that this formula seems very similar to the recent launch of Threadless Causes, but the difference here is Mass Canvas is giving a 10% donation to each and every charity and it's coming directly from them, from each and every sale. Pretty awesome guys.
