what's with the ugly carpet in vegas?

One thing is consistent throughout each and every casino in Las Vegas: over the top ridiculously ugly carpet. Chris Maluszynski has managed to put together an entire photo gallery devoted to this carpet ugliness.

Some theorize that it keeps people gambling. Others think it's all just a part of the Vegas tacky vibe. Whatever the reason, the gallery serves as colorful inspiration, and proof that no matter how bad your office carpet looks today...it could be worse.

I have some theories:
1 - keep you befuddled so you can't find your way out
2 - hide various stains
3 - bad carpet somehow = power? Have you seen the carpets in Congress?

Worse than carpet are the scents they pipe onto gambling floors. One casino reeked of Febreeze. Another "an ocean breeze"...

haven't you ever seen Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas? It's clearly made to seem like its moving, vibrating, or breathing...for the MORE THAN inebriated people. I think it works great!
