are you afraid of the phone?

Youthful Commentator Ilana Ross shares insight into a new generation of communicators...who hate the phone. We joke about this at our agency all of the time (and really hate making phone calls), but it's quite insightful to hear what's going through Ilana's head, in regard to the phone:

"I have to agree that talking on the phone has become burdensome. I get nervous and unsure of myself when forced to dial a number and engage another person, even a close friend."

Will we become more socially awkward in face to face or phone to phone communication? Will talking ever be back in style? From Irina@Slutsky

I hate using the phone - but not because I'm uncomfortable talking to people. I hate it because it's so inefficient.

For one thing: people take forever to get to the point. In email, people don't babble... well, not as much. Also, on the phone, people multi-task which is excruciating to the person on the other line. I don't want to know that you don't want onions in your breakfast burrito!

The thing I hate the most is voice mail. I look forward to the day when "phone tag" is as antiquated as "mimeograph." I wish my company would let me kill my voicemail.

TOTALLY agree with your comments. I am the worst offender at multi-tasking while talking... and yes, the babbling, can't stand that! But voicemail, is by FAR the worst! My cell phone voicemail box is full because I have messages I haven't listened to for over a month. Oops.

TYPO IN LAST LINE ... IT'S EVER NOT 'EVERY BE BACK IN STYLE'. I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS.
